HERITAGE KIDS CONNECTION

A MINISTRY OF HERITAGE CATHEDRAL / CHURCH ON THE ROCK

Our nation's youth need more afterschool programs, but the supply lags far behind the demand. Currently, 14.3 million children - among them 40,000 kindergartners - are alone and unsupervised after school. These young, people especially those in low income communities are not getting the extra learning and creative opportunities that afterschool programs offer. Worse, they face great risk. Studies show 3 PM to 6 PM is the peak time when juvenile crime tripples and when youth are more likely to smoke, abuse drugs, and become pregnant. We feel strongly that the answer is NOT more taxes or another government program, but a grass root effort to take care of our own community. My mother called it responsibility and my grandma called it "the right thing to do" We need the help of people like you in our community.
